I didn’t even realize until doing this work that I had been punishing myself with clothes I didn’t like because I wasn’t at my “ideal size.” The last time I hit that size, I bought a bunch of new things I loved and then slowly couldn’t wear them because my weight loss was unsustainable. So, when I set out on this journey to reclaim my body, I told my husband I was going to be giving myself a budget for new clothes I like. I wish I had known to do what Dacy recommended but I am happy with about half my wardrobe now. That’s a big step for me. I used to just use my mom’s old clothes until I got back where I wanted to be. It’s nice to wear clothes I like that fit. I also realized that I like to wear things that are roomy and now that I care less about a size, it’s much easier to do that. I love the closet edit!

I can’t wait to listen to this interview but so relate already. I am an 18/2X and it’s hard. Wtf? I order sooo much online just to return 99% of it… which costs money and is just so much labour without a car. Combined with so many stores quietly phasing out their plus sizes… it’s depressing.

Totally agree. I’m glad we’re all talking about it more- hopefully that will help us find places to shop and maybe even shift the thinking of companies?!

Same. My husband was teasing me at one point about how much I order and return, until I pointed out to him that I can't go shopping in stores (besides Torrid, the Lane Bryant outlet, and sometimes Old Navy) so my only option is to order things online, especially if I'm looking for something like a winter coat.

Yup, so true!! My version of this is that I only order from torrid these days because I know a 4 top will fit me. But my closet is getting so boring again because I’m avoiding the hassle of the order/return cycle and trying new stores and styles.

I just did a huge edit too! With so many bags to donate, I don’t know why I kept it all for so long. My style is really basic, so it is all about cut and fit for me. I have also learned to lean into my shape and stop expecting my clothes to transform me. It is so refreshing just to feel so content with everything in my closet.

Yes!!! Fit and fabrics have become important to me too. I learned recently, through expensive trial & error, that I loathe polyester now. It makes my peri-menopause body sweat and suffocate.

You’ve inspired me to do the same!

I love hearing Dacy in action! This might seem like a crazy idea, but if you want to order from brands that don't offer shipping to Canada, you can get a US mailing address and then forward it to yourself. I got an iPostal mailing address in London to order things from the UK. Not the cheapest way to shop, but possibly worth it to expand your brand options? And all in all, not that expensive. I think I paid $10 a month for the international mailbox.

I just wanted to say the French compagny Make my Lemonade does shoot a lot (most ?) Of its clothes on lots of different models of different heights, wheights, origin and even gender for some... I recognize it could be very expansive for northern américan to order but... inspiration is free ! It's for people who like color and fun prints !!! Cheers !!!
